Dithane, a registered mancozeb fungicide produced by Rohm and Haas, was the subject of a European symposium held on 27 and 28 January 2000, organised by the manufacturer. The management team reminded the audience of the different authorisations granted throughout the world, and gave an update report on the status of the different applications for re-registration, which, if not yet granted, are heading in the right direction. Good results have been obtained from the recent toxicology and ecotoxicology tests which were carried out within the context of the re-registration requests. Dithane was also favourably compared with generic mancozebs. The 2000 launch of a new product with granules which are more easily dispersible was announced.
Later, the technical managers of Rohm and Haas and European research scientists amongst the guests had the opportunity to discuss the technical merits of the product :
? new results relative to the effectiveness of the product against different fungal diseases affecting vines, potatoes and fruit and vegetable crops.
? results concerning the nutritive effects linked to the presence of zinc, and more importantly, manganese, in the molecule.
? the results of ongoing studies into how mancozeb strengthens the effects of copper on certain bacterial diseases.
