The field of plant protection in public amenities has seen a number of important new arrivals over the past two years. Authorisation has been granted to 10 new herbicides, 4 insecticides and 3 fungicides, with application extensions being granted to 3 fungicides previously used in farming but new to the world of amenities.
The herbicide market has been the most lively, owing to the demand for new products to replace triazin and/or diuron based products. One of the star arrivals is a brand new molecule, flazasulfuron, which is used in the weed control of parks, gardens, pavements, walkways and railways.
As far as insecticides are concerned, pymetrozin, also new to the market, has been launched to deal with aphids and white-fly on a variety of plants.
Finally, turning to fungicides, methyl-kresoxim, which was launched for cereal protection in 1997 and has since become one of the star molecules on the market, is now available for use against powdery mildew on roses.
It should also be pointed out that a number of products launched over the past two years contain molecules developed during the 1990s.
