A joint review survey of plant protection trials has been carried out this year by APSEA (association of service providers for agronomic trials) and the Uipp (union of companies operating in the plant protection industry). The survey produced the following results for the 1997-1998 season :
? Member companies of the UIPP which responded to the survey subcontract over 25% of their trials to service providers : 2450 trials out of a total of 9600.
? 1400 of these subcontracted trials were carried out by service providers who are members of APSEA ; primarily registration trials (for GTP) and residue trials (for GLP).
? A similar number of trials were carried out for non-UIPP companies, notable foreign companies which do not have a trials structure in France nor a legal entity enabling them to become a member of the UIPP.
The 13 member companies of APSEA can therefore be seen to play a key role in the field of plant protection trials in France.
