For the very first time on the French market, a new ELISA serum which makes it possible to differentiate between Markus and Dideron strains of plum pox virus has been launched. Tests carried out by the regional plant protection laboratory in Montpellier have shown the efficacy of the serum ; the laboratory has applied it as a matter of routine, whilst at the same time ensuring that international quality assurance standards are respected.
A high proportion of Markus strain in peach trees has been brought to light ; this strain, which is particularly aggressive, has such a rapid natural dispersion rate that it is essential to intensify identification of contaminated trees, followed by laboratory control and clearance, in order to ensure that good quality apricots and peaches may continue to be produced in France.
