In compliance with the common benchmarks for environment-friendly good practices drawn up by OILB and adopted at a national level by the ITV, a list of specifications for integrated viticulture has been drawn up by Y. Bugaret with the support of four companies working in the field of agro-pharmaceuticals. The specifications are to undergo technical and economic validation over a period of several years, in five « reference » vineyards of the Bordeaux region.
In 2001 a study was carried out by S. Bessart in the AOC Bordeaux vineyard of Château Lestrille, the leading light of the five references. The study was carried out as an integral part of his thesis for assessing different strategies for the integrated management of grapevine downy mildew using the tools and decision-making rules contained in the specifications.
Taking into account the epidemiological conditions prevalent in the year 2001, the study highlighted the possibility of protecting grapevines with three applications, in spite of the fact that most producers currently implement a strategy of seven treatments. The article describes the main events of the season, the decisions taken in relation to the different events, and the results of trials.
