In an interview with our magazine, J.-B. Montalescot, Technology Adviser to Sitévi and member of the jury of the Research Committee, reviews the winners of the 1999 innovation award. He stresses the importance of this award, especially in terms of the exposure which is given to the winning exhibitors.
This year, the vinification-?nology sector ? in which France is the world leader ? was well-represented, with the presentation of a pneumatic wine press, tangential filtration of grape must and a sorting and stripping machine. In wine-production, the constant developments made in the field of grape-harvesting machines wins the full approval of Mr Montalescot, in particular the on-board sorting mechanism. The sprayer, which has been a regular award-winner in recent years, is still, according to the interviewe, the most sophisticated item of farming equipment, with constant improvements being made.
Future developments will be made in the area of decision-aid tools and a clear move towards so-called precision wine-production, thanks largely to developments in grape-harvesting machines, which will rapidly be able to produce results similar to selective manual harvesting.
