A number of plants found in public amenities have brightly coloured fruit and berries which have varying degrees of toxicity. The article gives details of the plants for which cases of poisoning have been reported to the anti-poisoning centre in Angers. In order to make identification easier, a full botanical description of each is provided, as well as preventive advice.
Other ways of reducing the risks of poisoning include careful choice of position, making plants inaccessible to children, and pruning in order to prevent the development of fruit.
