De décembre 1996 à décembre 1997 inclus, les cultures légumières ont bénéficié de diverses innovations phytosanitaires : six autorisations de nouveaux produits. Dont deux fongicides identiques associant l'hexaconazole au chlorothalonil, deux traitements de semences pour maïs associant le fludioxonyl au métalaxyl, et deux insecticides à base de molécules déjà connues (alphaméthrine pour l'un, acrinathrine pour l'autre) mais dans des formulations novatrices bénéficiant notamment de meilleurs classements toxicologiques que celles précédemment disponibles. Par ailleurs, une trentaine de spécialités déjà connues sur d'autres cultures ont bénéficié chacune d'une ou plusieurs extensions d'emploi sur cultures légumières, y compris certaines pour des usages mineurs jusqu'ici peu ou pas couverts. A range of plant health innovations came about between December 1996 and December 1997 with regard to vegetable crops : 6 new products were registrated, including 2 identical fungicides which associate fludioxonyl and metalaxyl, 2 insecticides which use existing active ingredients (alphamethrin for the former and acrinathrin for the latter).
Besides these innovations, around thirty current products, already used with vegetable and other crops, were granted extended registrations for use on different vegetable crops, including minor uses for minor crops, which were not previously covered.
In terms of nutritive input, field fertilisation is increasingly integrated ; work is ongoing to study the staggered application of nitrogen and the use of slow-release fertiliser, using, in particular, a registrated nitrification retardant.
Growing media for non-field production have also undergone a number of innovations, particularly in terms of packaging.
