The range of products available for amenities, amateur gardens and ornamental crops has undergone considerable development over the past year with several new arrivals, the confirmation of a number of older molecules which have been re-examined at European level and the withdrawal of some other older molecules.
For weed control, a new herbicide has been registered, along with a new additive. Another herbicide has been granted an extension to its scope of application.
For the pests which amateur gardeners have to deal with, the main developments include a mole repellent and usage extensions for several pyrethrinoid insecticides.
Against greenhouse pests, pyriproxyfen is a new arrival whose purpose is to provide effective control of whitefly.
Dimetomorph is registered against phytophthora on ornemental trees and flowers
Elsewhere, ten older molecules have been included on a positive list drawn up subsequent to European-level re-examination (see list in the article). This serves as a comfort for products sold on the French market which contain these molecules.
On the other hand, the decision has been taken to withdraw three other older molecules from the European market (i.e. benomyl, methyl-parathion, aldicarb). The article provides the dates for withdrawal from the French market.
Finally, besides the 30 molecules whose withdrawal was announced last year (see list in the article), 19 other molecules authorised for use in France in amenities, amateur gardens and/or ornamental crops (8 of which were still on sale at the end of 2002) will disappear in 2003 owing to their non-representation at European level by their manufacturers (see list in the article).
