The effect of mancozeb on the predatory mite Typhlodromus pyri has been studied in large plots multiyear grape trials treated according to the grower practice.
In the fields traditionally treated with this fungicide, the impact of the applications is low, Typhlodromus pyri has developed a tolerance.
In the fields that were not regularly treated with mancozeb in the past, the effect is stronger, which is in line with usual assessment of this compound. However, this toxicity is temporary, as populations have recovered at the beginning of the year following the applications. On the other hand, there has never been any multiplication of phytophagous mites; these fields could be conducted without the use of a miticide, because Typhlodromus pyri was in sufficient number, and/or because mancozeb depressed the populations of phytophagous mites themselves.
