A conference organised in December 2003 by the Integrated Pest Management Club of Bayer CropScience dealt with the issue of the management of plant protection product effluents.
First of all, these effluents were situated in relation to other farming effluents and an overview of their environmental impacts was given.
Attendees were reminded of the legal definition of plant protection product effluents before moving on to take a closer look at the issue of legislation pertaining to the management of these effluents, especially the short-term prospects of an inter-ministry decree pertaining to the on-site spreading of plant protection product effluents, to be published in 2004. Attention then turned to the work of regional action groups against plant protection product pollution (GRAPs) co-ordinated by the regional farm and forest commissions and plant protection committees (DRAF & SRPV) or the regional environmental commissions (DIREN).
