A review of rape, pea and horsebean crops harvested in 2005 shows that:
? Rape diseases were not very active, despite the fact that sclerotinia rot appeared at certain times to be threatening; the article provides a status report on resistance of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and fungicide developments.
? Insects gave little cause for concern on rape, with the exception of meligethes and, in certain localised cases, terminal bud weevil.
? Weed control was well-managed on rape, but the cost of effective control is increasing (geraniums), and broomrape is quite worrying in Poitou-Charentes.
? Diseases affecting protein crops were also relatively inactive (just a few outbreaks of Aphanomyces and foot rot on peas).
? The most notable pest on protein crops was horsebean weevil: damage caused by this pest resulted in the downgrading of certain batches intended for human consumption (exports).
