A thesis from the CREPA (Regional centre for the study of agropharmaceutical products) at the University of Angers compared analysis techniques of pesticide residues in the different species of vegetables. Six different active ingredients were tested for in five different crops.
The results showed that the Elisa tests, inexpensive and able to be carried out by farmers or local, country-based laboratories, can only provide a qualitative assessment (high or low risk of residues above the LMR), but the quantitative measurements are shown to be unreliable. These measurements could be made using chromatography (CLHP or CPG) and would require specialised laboratories.
