Five viruses were the subject of a French decree issued on 8 July 2002, making the control of the viruses and their vectors compulsory in France. They are all transmitted by Bemisia tabaci and/or Trialeurodes vaporariorum white fly, and present in Spain and other mediterranean countries.
TYLCV causes severe damage to tomatoes and can also attack other crops, transmitted by B. tabaci . Outbreaks have occurred and eradicated in France in 1999 and in 2002.
ToCV attacks tomato crops. It probably causes less damage than TYLCV, but awareness is less well-developed. It is transmitted by B. tabaci and T. vaporariorum , and was detected in France in 2002.
TICV, transmitted by T. vaporariorum, affects tomatoes and other crops. Little is known of the damage caused by this virus, yet undetected in France.
The damage caused by CYSDV, a cucurbit virus transmitted by B. tabaci, is also not very well documented. Outbreaks occurred in France in 2001 and 2002 and were eradicated.
CVYV is a cucurbit virus transmitted by B. tabaci. The damage which it causes is also not very well known. It has not been detected in France.
