? la nouvelle résistance disruptive aux strobilurines impose une adaptation des programmes fongicides (plus jamais de strobilurine seule, toujours utiliser des triazoles à doses efficaces);
In order to address the issue of resistance of Septoria tritici, one of the agents of glume blotch, to strobilurins, Makhteshim Agan France organised a symposium on 24 November 2004 in Orsay.
First of all, a full review of current knowledge of Septoria tritici (= Mycosphaerella graminicola) was presented, including its biology and a status report on resistance. The following key issues were brought to light :
? the new disruptive resistance to strobilurins requires considerable changes to fungicide programmes (i.e. strobilurin must never be used alone, triazols must always be used in efficacious doses) ;
? the « age-old » quantitative resistance to triazols suggests that it is a good idea, at least once a year, to use a fungicide which offers an alternative mode of action, if possible a multi-site fungicide which is not threatened by resistance.
Makhteshim Agan produces a product which combines a multi-site ingredient (i.e. folpel) with a triazol (i.e. propiconazol). Results of laboratory trials (in vitro and in planta) have shown the effectiveness of this product on sensitive strains which are resistant to strobilurins and the possibility of association with a strobilurin, and have also indicated a synergy between folpel and azoxystrobin on resistant strains.
Field results, including those obtained in 2004 in regions affected by resistance, confirm the usefulness of a folpel-propiconazol association, especially for early applications.
Makhteshim Agan recommends the use of its product at the T1 stage, alone or in association with suitable partners.
