Over the past two years, five new herbicide active ingredients have appeared on the cereals market, all used at doses of less than 50g per hectare.
Florasulam, produced by Dow AgroSciences, is a post-emergence anti-dicotyledon (especially effective against goose-grass) used at the end of winter and also from autumn onwards. It is marketed alone in three different products.
Ethyl-pyraflufen (by Bayer CropScience) is also a post-emergence anti-dicotyledon (especially effective against goose-grass), used from autumn until the end of winter. It is found in association in two products. Sodium-methyliodosulphuron (by Bayer CropScience) is a dual-effect anti-gramineae (especially rye grass) and anti-dicotyledon (especially goose-grass). Launched in two products, in association, it was subsequently contained in three other newly-launched products, and is used at the end of winter, at the post-emergence stage.
Methyl-mesosulphuron, again produced by Bayer CropScience under the name Mesomaxx, is a post-emergence anti-gramineae, especially effective against fox-tail, with a secondary anti-dicotyledon effect; it has been launched in three products also containing iodosulphuron. It is also used at the end of winter.
BASF's picolinafen is an early post-emergence anti-dicotyledon with a secondary anti-gramineae effect, especially on young fox-tail. Launched in association with pendimethalin, with which it has a synergetic effect, it is used during the autumn.
Four of these new active ingredients offer the advantage of being exempt from toxicological classification.
