Un GIE de négociants en pomme de terre a fait appel à partir de 1997 aux services de la Pv et des Fredec pour mettre en place une opération lutte raisonnée avec notamment le suivi d'« Avertissements agricoles » basés sur des modèles épidémiologiques.
Le suivi des parcelles accompagnant l'opération a montré l'efficacité de la méthode. Elle a permis une maîtrise du Mildiou sans gaspillage de produits, malgré la forte pression de maladie en 1997 et 1998.
Parallèlement, des essais de protection allégée par rapport à celle préconisée par les Avertissements agricoles, ont été menés sur des variétés de pomme de terre de sensibilité différentes au Mildiou. Sur variété sensible telle que Bintje, le programme « Avertissements » doit être maintenu. Il peut être allégé sur des variétés moins sensibles telles que Saturna et surtout Santé et Samba (démarrage plus tard). Ces résultats sont intéressants, mais à confirmer et affiner selon les variétés notamment.
Since 1997 an economic interest group made up of potato producers has called upon the Plant Protection Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Crop Defence Federation in order to set up an integrated control programme featuring a system of « Agricultural Warnings », the triggering threshold of which is based upon epidemiological models.
The monitoring of plots used in the programme showed that the method was extremely efficacious. Mildew was effectively controlled without wastage of products, in spite of the extent and force of the disease in 1997 and 1998.
Parallel to this programme, trials using protection product levels below the recommendations of the agricultural warning system were carried out on a number of mildew-sensitive varieties of potato. On highly sensitive varieties such as Bintje, the warning system will have to be upheld. Reduced level protection will be possible with certain less sensitive varieties such as Saturns and particularly Santé and Samba (late to start). The results are encouraging but must be confirmed for all varieties.
