The AFPP «natural products» working group has recently given over its deliberations to the issue of natural products (with the exception of copper, sulphur and living organisms, all of which were the focus of studies by another group).
The group established an inventory, differentiating between products for which the active substances have been isolated or copied and those which have not been isolated within the extracts obtained.
Work was also given over to an assessment of the efficacy of these products, a major criteria for registration purposes. A proposal was put forward to adapt assessment CEB methods (originally created for chemical products) to the specific nature of the products.
Further deliberations dealt with the relationship between European legislation pertaining to organic farming, and French legislation, compliant with European guidelines, pertaining to the registration of phytopharmaceutical products in general. The working group put forward proposals to coordinate the two sets of legislation, with a special emphasis on adapting registration legislation for plants and their extracts.
