Asian longhorn beetles Anoplophora glabripennis and Anoplophora chinensis have established themselves in America and Europe (Austria and Italy).
Owing to the severe damage which these species cause to ornamental trees, forests and orchards in the countries in which they have settled, and in order to eliminate the risk of accidental introduction to France, a system of border controls and nationwide monitoring has been set up. The regulatory and technical details of these measures are provided in the article.
The experience of other countries has shown that in the event of accidental introduction, a delay in detection makes eradication impossible. In view of this experience, the article provides details of the means of detecting the presence of these insects : appearance of adults, feeding bite marks, evidence of egg-laying (appearance and location on the wood), larva activity, etc?, differentiating between the two species. Finally, the article describes the damage caused by both Anoplophora species and emphasises the damage caused.
