The annual meeting of the Frac-Sbi working party was held in the UK in October 1998, hosted by AgrEvo. Those attending were representatives of the main SBI fungicide manufacturers.
The meeting reviewed the results of monitoring of resistance to SBI fungicides carried out by agrochemicals companies or by organisations sponsored by these companies.
The main crops and diseases examined were as follows : barley (Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei, Pyrenophora teres, Rhynchosporium secalis), wheat (Erysiphe graminis f. sp. tritici, Puccinia recondita, P. striiformis, Septoria tritici, Tapesia acuformis and T. yallundae, Gaeumonnomyces graminis), grapevine (Uncinula necator), apple trees (Venturia inaequalis), bananas (Mycosphaerella fijiensis) and sugar beet (Cercospora beticola).
During the meeting a number of recommendations were made for the use of each product with each crop/disease pairing, clearly reflecting the strategic objectives of the agrochemicals industry to ensure effective control of SBI resistance problems.
