In France, fungicides of the QoI family are currently faced with resistance by the agent of grapevine downy mildew. In order to manage this situation, Qol fungicides should be used in association with other molecules.
Alongside the officially recommended Qol/contact (a.k.a. multisite) molecule associations, which were particularly robust in all situations in 2002, Bayer CropScience has also tested an association of fenamidone (QoI) and fosétyl-al (systemic molecule).
Results of vineyard field trials carried out on sites subject to downy mildew resistance and laboratory trials of resistant strains indicate that this association, known as Verita, produces good results, on condition that it is applied prior to setting of the vine.
The recommended process therefore involves two applications of the product per season, after an earlier treatment with another product, and prior to setting.
Indeed, a third application after alternation with another product would be too late in the event of resistant downy mildew.
The article provides details of the modes of action of fenamidon and fosétyl-al, along with a discussion of the results.
