Among the 50 oral presentations and 114 posters displayed during the 5th congress of the French Society of Plant Diseases (SFP), held in Angers from 26 to 29 March, a certain number may be of interest to readers of Phytoma-LdV.
A number of studies were concerned with the grapevine : influence of microclimate on Botrytis cinerea, trials using antagonistic yeast for the control of B. cinerea , PCR detection of Eutypa lata (an agent of Eutypa canker), studies of the dispersion of bacterial necrosis using PCR and ELISA and reports of trials of a range of molecules.
Turning to cereals, the results of a number of studies of rust (Puccinia sp.) were presented : sampling of nutritive elements by spores, the role played by rain in the epidemiology of the disease, the possibilities of control by mixing varieties. The role of trehalose as an elicitor against powdery mildew was the subject of a further paper. Other papers dealt with plane tree canker, the possible, non-established, vectorial role of Metcalfa pruinosa , bacterial dieback of fruit trees, noble rot of the grapevine and strawberry yellow-edge.
