The weed control of corn crops, but also sorghum and millet, has developed technically in line with legislative developments: withdrawal of atrazin, attempts to reduce quantities used, management of mixtures.
As far as corn crops are concerned, there are a range of technical solutions, but these are often more complicated to implement than before : an almost systematic need for two applications, association and/or succession of pre- and post-emergence herbicides, consideration of the flora of each plot, of the growth development stage of the weeds in question and also the application conditions.
It can also be useful to consider alternative techniques.
Turning to sorghum, the authorised selective herbicides all provide for effective control of dicotyledons but produce unsatisfactory results against summer grasses; a range of different techniques are currently being studied. It is also worth mentioning that the number of sorghum crops diminished in 2004.
Last but not least - millet. There are currently no specific authorised herbicides, but research into solutions is ongoing.
